wia_logoHi Bob,

A bit of news for the Beru website.

This is an announcement from the WIA for the contest:

RSGB 80th Commonwealth Contest 11 and 12 March for 24 hours FROM 10.00 GMT.
The challenge of contesting has endured from the earliest days of
radio communication and is part of modern Amateur Radio activities
that are now very diverse.

The Commonwealth Contest celebrates its 80th, and is a CW-only
affair run by the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB).

Proudly taking part on behalf of the IARU member radio society the
WIA, is Headquarters Station VK4KW. It will be run by Phil VK4BAA
and Trent VK4TS with contact to VK4KW eligible for special
multiplier points.

The RSGB will also have three draws with mementos as prizes for the
lucky Commonwealth country entrants.

The 80th Commonwealth Contest will be March 11 and 12 – see the
rules for more details.

Hi Bob, as just 11 days to E51KTA final prep going on.... good luck for
your own endeavours.

Yippee no new jabs needed, car booked me & 34KG of kit to take me to
airport

31KG of the kit is antennas and feeders, 1KG KX3 (inc cables), just 2KG
clothes!
At US$95 per kilo for each of the three legs above 30KG I think I can
buy T shirts and toothpaste when there cheaper!

It looks as I *MIGHT* have slow internet whilst on island at a lot of cost!
Loose access as soon as I go on the boat though to other island.

See you at P&P unless offski early

Hi Bob

Hope you are all set for the off?  Still juggling weight allowances here, as I have to take most of the kit ( to VY2 ) that went to Gozo in 2012/3, but by air!

I have just received the first off new-miniature, ready for engraving with the winner of the 80th event.  To my amazement, it weighs within one gram of the original, so this 3D printing really works!  I have now gone ahead with the other nine.  Pic attached.

The bases will be turned from African blackwood.  These are being produced as a batch for reasons of economy and will take a few more days.

I will go to forty metres
On this sunny BERU morn
Where the strong Antipodeans
Make me glad that I was born.

Signal bearing polar flutter
From the town of Christchurch fair,
Lands upon this Irish meadow
Answering my silent prayer.

Signals coming on the long path
From a far Australian shore,
Crossing ice and sea and jungle,
Coming to increase my score.

Sigs from Asia’s teeming cities;
Sigs from Afric’s dusty plains;
Sigs from small Pacific islands;
To this land of gentle rains.

Some ops work me with a yagi,
Some ops work me with a wire,
Some ops work me with a groundplane,
Late on eighty, when I tire.

Fickle paths on ten and fifteen
Barely open ere they’re gone.
Booming DX strong on 20.
Strong at sunset, strong at dawn.

I will go to forty metres
On this sunny BERU morn,
Sinful would it be to let those
CQ Contests rest forlorn.

(With acknowledgement to Seamus Heaney or is it WB Yeats?).
