Hi again Paul,

Update – Graham G4FNL has offered to relinquish G6XX in the interests of widening the participation in the HQ program – thanks Graham! Not sure how much experience members of your team have of Beru (and apologies if I’m wasting your time) but we hope (expect?) HQ stations to fulfill a couple of basic things…

  • Be on the air for the whole 24 hours or as near as possible
  • Be able to put out a half decent signal on all contest bands 80m-10m. UK HQ ops are allowed to work other UK&CD stations but this is primarily a DX contest…..

We’d also need a named member (GB4GCT NoV holder?) to be a RSGB and RSGB Contest Club member. Other team members can be non RSGB members as well as holders of other license classes (4f of the rules). The RSGB Contest Club membership is required because the call G6XX is allocated to this club. Nearer the time we’ll need a list of team members.

Any problems/queries just ask…

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your email and interest in being an HQ station in the Commonwealth Contest of 2022.

A decision was made that this year we would restrict UK HQ stations to one G*6XX call per UK area in order to align the UK&CD with the rest of the Commonwealth. For historical reasons the UK wide special call of GB5CC would also be included as it has been for many years. Unfortunately, and as you will see from the table on the G6XX qrz page, both G6XX and GB5CC have been allocated to volunteers who responded to a posting on the RSGB Contest Club io group already. It’s a shame G is always ‘over subscribed’ while we struggle to activate some of the other regions but that’s demography..! If you wish we can certainly record your interest early for 2023!

We hope you will be able to put on GB4GCT in March and have fun in the contest….

Commonwealth Contest UK HQ stations 2022

Hi Stewart,

NADARS are interested in providing a HQ station from our club station GB4GCT location at Greenham Control Tower.

We should be able to provide a 24 hour multi band operation from there with club members operating to a schedule throughout the contest.

We have some well known CW contest operators in NADARS who would take part if we can operate a HQ station.

Can you advise if this is of interest to the BERU committee?

Following Nick’s earlier mention about volunteers to fill the slots for our Beru HQ stations this year we now have the following:-

GB5CC – Chris GM3WOJ
G6XX – Graham G4FNL
GM6XX – Terry GM3WUX

Nick should update the table on the G6XX qrz page soon where you’ll see we have restricted our HQs to the 6XX series plus GB5CC. Please let me/us know if anyone would like to operate any of the other calls. It would be good to have some new blood so please consider it if you have (or know someone not in this group who has) a reasonable 10-80m station and are willing/able to operate for the 24 hours. Everyone taking these calls has to be a RSGB member and join the RSGB Contest Club which is free. After Christmas I’ll start chasing if they’re not all filled..;-)

Stew GW0ETF will be looking for volunteers for the Commonwealth Contest HQ stations. It would be good if different people would have a go at this in 2022.

Contact Stew directly if you are interested
